SmartFlow Technologies, Inc.
Proven Performance in High-Solids,
High-Temperature Filtration
Our proprietary High Solids TFF (HSTFF™) platform has been helping customers solve the most demanding separation challenges where high solids, sticky feeds, and elevated temperatures make traditional filtration challenging.

Operations in Sanford, NC
Benefits of Working With SmartFlow
SmartFlow partners with customers from concept to commercialization, providing a guided approach to scale with technologies that extend the capabilities of traditional filtration methods.
- High Solids TFF (HSTFF™)-high-solids, high temperature operation capabilities
- 6 stage process to de-risk scale up
- Ongoing post-launch maintenance support program
- Patented membrane-based platform for multiple applications
Benefits of the SmartFlow Design Platform
SmartFlow’s open channel High Solids TFF (HSTFF™) membrane-based platform
- Concentrates challenging streams to high solids
- Improves recovery and dryer efficiency
- Enables targeted separations
- Integrates features like DiaSync® diafiltration with product recovery and concentration
Built for Demanding Processing Environments
SmartFlow systems operate reliably under high heat and viscosity while maintaining consistent performance from lab to plant scale.
- Operates reliably at temperatures up to 85°C (peak of 90°C)
- Produces viscosities of >500,000 cP
- Scales seamlessly from lab to commercial size, utilizing SmartFlow’s modular design
Thin Stillage Concentration
High Solids, Higher Efficiency
The system reaches solids levels beyond conventional membranes, improving drying performance and overall process efficiency.
- Concentrates streams to >95% total solids on a wet weight basis (and has exceeded 99% in some cases)
- Achieves dry weight concentrations exceeding 55% in biological applications, supporting higher downstream efficiency
- Increases spray dryer throughput typically by 15–25% by delivering higher concentration feeds
High Solids Concentration
Integrated Concentration, Diafiltration & Water Reuse
DiaSync® unifies concentration and diafiltration while reusing permeate intelligently. Instead of discrete batch steps with fresh water additions, DiaSync® recycles the appropriate permeate fraction, cutting external water demand and shortening time‑to‑target (conductivity, buffer exchange, salt removal, etc.).
- Integrated concentration and diafiltration in one control recipe
- Permeate reuse strategies that reduce freshwater draw and wastewater volume
Energy Savings and Product Value Recovery
Higher concentrated product streams reduce energy use and enable selective recovery of valuable components.
- Cuts energy consumption compared to evaporative concentration alone
- Enables targeted membrane separations of proteins, sugars, and other valuable fractions

Customer Journey
SmartFlow’s Approach:
The 6-Stage Project Development Program
A structured, low-risk path from goals to full-scale deployment.
The program begins by identifying the goals, defining objectives, and prioritizing opportunities. Feasibility is then verified on actual materials through proof-of-concept testing. From there, SmartFlow develops and optimizes process conditions, membranes, and economics before confirming performance at pilot scale on a right-sized system, supported by SmartFlow’s large rental fleet. The pilot data is used to engineer the plant-scale system(s) with appropriate automation, documentation, and commissioning. Finally, the program standardizes performance across multiple facilities and sustains uptime through ongoing support.
